While Steamboat may be most well-known for the ski resort and winter activities, Summer is a local's favorite season. From the ideal weather conditions to the plethora of outdoor recreation options, if you haven't visited Steamboat in the summer, now is the time!
Not sure what to do while you're on vacation? Here's our list of favorite activities.
Saddle Up - Stay true to Steamboat's western roots and take a trail ride at one of the many ranches just outside of town. Check out Del's Triangle 3 for everything from one hour rides to multi-day pack trips, or Saddleback Ranch for dinner rides and cattle drives.
Base-area family fun - The Steamboat Resort looks quite different without several feet of snow and spinning chairlifts, but you don't want to miss the extensive downhill biking and hiking trails, mini-golf, the mountain coaster, and more. No matter what you're looking for, the base area has something for everyone.
The Pro Rodeo Series - At Howelsen Hill, right in the heart of downtown Steamboat, celebrate Steamboat's ranching tradition and cheer on the participants in the rodeo as they rope cattle, compete in bull riding, and speed through the barrel races. The series takes place every Friday and Saturday night through mid-August.
Mountain Biking - Steamboat has quickly become a favorite destination for biking enthusiasts. The extensive single-track network at Emerald Mountain has terrain fit for beginners and advanced bikers alike. Not too much of mountain biker? That's ok - rent a cruiser bike and stroll down the core trail by the river for some fun exercise and beautiful views.
Play on the river - Tubing, fishing, swimming...whatever your preference, the Yampa River, which runs through downtown Steamboat, has endless opportunities for fun on the water. Head down to Steamboat Flyfisher for a guided flyfishing trip, or rent a tube at Backdoor Sports and go float! Make sure that the water levels are safe wherever you are and whatever your chosen activity is.
Lakes and State Parks - Only a short distance from town, there are several lakes and parks if you're looking for a place to paddleboard or go boating. Steamboat Lake offers boat and paddleboard rentals, or stop by Hala Paddleboards in town and check out Stagecoach Lake or Pearl Lake.
This is only a few of the vast options for outdoor summer fun in Steamboat. Make sure to check out the Steamboat Chamber website for special events like the Free Summer Concert Series. Get out there and enjoy everything this special town has to offer!
